Welcome to the “Six Letter Word” blog…
There was a time when the Internet was just an informational tool. In the early life of the World Wide Web some 20 years ago, websites were simple and provided a one-sided conversation. As time went on, the Internet became more interactive with the introduction of transaction-based websites and online shopping, but the online world remained one-sided.
That all changed with the evolution of Web 2.0 (known as the social web) wherein user-generated content became an integral part of the online world. Today, users expect websites to provide a two-way conversation and web logs (or blogs) were born.
There are many blogs by parents of autistic children, with more being added all the time. The subject matter in these blogs runs the whole spectrum (no pun intended) of life with autism. Some parents are trying to understand autism, some are trying to find – and encourage others to find – a cure, some are simply sharing what they learn with others, and some are just trying to cope.
The “Six Letter Word” blog deals with many of these issues through the influential lens of filmmaking. Film is a very powerful medium, perhaps more powerful than written texts because, as we all know, seeing is believing. Films weave images, stories, metaphors and allegory, they show us things using the words with which we are so familiar combining these with visual and auditory cues which can enhance our lives yet these things would mean nothing if it wasn’t for the understanding, experience and imagination we bring to the viewing experience. We are excited that you have chosen to take this journey with us.
I am a single mother of a severely autistic child. I would love to see this movie but can’t seem to find it anywhere. Can somebody point me in the right direction?
Thanks
